The Can Can Shawl

I released a new shawl pattern this week! The Can Can Shawl is a wide garter stitch crescent with a deep lace border worked in three colors of Manos Del Uruguay Alegria. The design began with one skein of Alegria in the Cabaret colorway, a highly variegated mix of pinks, white, and black. I also added two solid colors of Alegria to complement the raucous variegation in Cabaret. Like I usually do, I went to pinterest for ideas and created this board with photos of Can Can dancers for inspiration.

It took me a lot longer to knit my sample than it did any of my test knitters! I knew I wanted stripes of Cabaret and a deep black lace border, but it took me a few tries to decide on the shape of the shawl and the method of increase. I ultimately settled on a pattern of single and double yarn overs worked only at the edges of the shawl to create the wide and shallow crescent shape. The body of the shawl is worked all in garter stitch, and the lace border is an easy two stitch repeat, worked without increases. The lace border is incredibly stretchy, and the pattern includes directions for a stretchy bind off which allows the lace to spread out.

My birthday is this weekend, so I am having a sale on all my independently published patterns, including the Can Can Shawl. Just use the code HAPPY to take 25% off any of these patterns now through August 19, 2017.

Thank you for knitting!
