Made This Week
I am making really good progress on my Magic Sock Blanket. I have a goal of 3 blocks a month and I have made 11 blocks since the beginning of the year, so I’m ahead of schedule.
I have also been working on a secret project which I can’t show you, but I can show you the yarn; it’s Jo Sharp Silk Road Ultra, a blend of wool, silk, and cashmere in a bulky weight.
I tried to do some sewing earlier this year but I got really frustrated and gave up, not only because I’m a complete novice, but also because my machine was acting up. Lucky for me there is a Singer sewing machine repair shop in the next town over. I’ve had this machine since I was a teenager, but I never used it much, so it was in need of a tune up and general maintenance. As soon as I dropped it off I started thinking of all the things I wanted to sew! I’ve started 2 new Pinterest boards with sewing project ideas already.
What I really need is practice, so when I found fat quarters on sale in pretty batik fabrics I picked up a handful. Then I went back a few days later and picked up another handful. My sewing friends were right; my fabric stash is going to be just as out of control as my yarn stash!
Although my ultimate goal is to make clothes, my skill level isn’t up to it yet, so I decided to start with knitting project bags. Last year my friend Brenda made me a cute little Japanese Knot Bag, so with that bag as a template and a little help from Martha Stewart, I made this bag.
There are a few variations on the pattern that I’d like to try, so I’m planning on doing more sewing this week, but don’t worry, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled knitting content next week, when I’ll have a new sweater pattern to tell you about! Happy making!

Hi Kathy! Welcome back! I’m a bit further north in Kewaunee Wisconsin, but I think you’ll find some nice yarn shops nearby, like the Wool and Cotton Company and Cream City Yarn.

I am honored that you used the bag I made as a template. Good luck with your sewing.
