The Fullerton Cardigan

The Spring 2018 issue of Knitscene magazine is out now, and I have two designs in it! This is the Fullerton Cardigan, a simple drop-shoulder v-neck cardigan worked in a heavy worsted weight mohair blend yarn. The pattern is in the 90s story in the magazine and I drew my inspiration for the design from a similar boxy cardigan that I wore in the early 90s, as well as some iconic 90s cardigan wearers, like Kurt Cobain and Cher Horowitz in Clueless.

The simple construction of this cardigan will make it a great beginner’s project, but also a very wearable piece that’s perfect for showing off a textured or slightly variegated yarn.

The plain stockinette body would make a great backdrop for unique and colorful buttons, or if you’re lucky like I was, buttons that perfectly match your yarn!

I used a detail sometimes found in classic fisher ganseys at the top of the sleeve; just a bit of knit 2 purl 2 ribbing in an unexpected place. It looks nice, and I think it also helps prevent the droopiness you sometimes get at the underarms of drop shoulder sweaters.

The pattern for the Fullerton Cardigan is available from Interweave both digitally and in print, or find it wherever you buy magazines.

Thank you for knitting!
