Cherry Blossom Cardigan

The Spring 2018 issue of Knitscene was published in December, and I had two designs in it! The first was the Fullerton Cardigan, which I blogged here, but the one that is making me really impatient for Spring is the Cherry Blossom Cardigan. I love this pale pink color (it’s simply called Rose), and it is on one of my absolute favorite yarns; madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light.

The allover lace pattern makes a light and airy cardigan that will be perfect for Spring, and here in Wisconsin, Summer and Fall too! The lace pattern makes the knitting go a little slower than it would in plain stockinette, but it is really not a difficult stitch pattern. With only a 3 stitch repeat it is easily memorized. The button band and shoulders are worked in easy garter stitch, and cuffs and hem feature a neat twisted rib.

There is a fantastic article in the magazine about German Short Rows, but although that is my favorite method for working short rows, this design required something a little different. The garter stitch shoulders in this pattern are worked with wrap and turn short rows, but the wraps are left in place to perfectly blend into the garter stitch fabric at the turns. This is probably the easiest way to work short rows!
