The Augusta Cardigan

The Fall Issue of Interweave Knits magazine has arrived! I am so excited about this issue, not only because I have a design in it that I love, but because it is the 20th anniversary edition of Knits magazine! I feel really lucky to be included with past and present Interweave editors and star designers this issue.

I’ve been reading Knits magazine since I learned to knit a little over ten years ago, and I can see that the Knits aesthetic has been a big influence in my designs, in both the style of the garments and the writing of the patterns. One of the first knitting magazines I ever bought was the Knits Fall 2006 issue. The sweater shown is not the cover sweater, but my own design loosely inspired by it.

Now, ten years later, I have a design in the magazine I took so much inspiration and direction from! How cool is that? My design for this issue is the Augusta Cardigan, a big cozy sweater with a fancy cable panel going up the back. I loved imagining the design, figuring out the pattern, and knitting the sample.

The yarn I used, Woolfolk Far is so amazing, you have to feel it to believe it. It is a ridiculously soft merino wool with a chainette construction that creates a knit fabric that is light and soft with fantastic stitch definition.

All of the patterns in this issue are available for digital download on Ravelry now, and the digital edition of the magazine is available from the Interweave Store. You’ll have to wait a little longer for the print edition, but it will be in bookstores and yarn shops everywhere soon!

Thank you for knitting!
